Whether you're running daily errands or going on a weekend adventure outdoors, a versatile SUV like the Ford Escape or Honda CR-V is a great way to get around Kittanning, Slippery Rock, Worthington, Harrisville, and Clarion. Both are a mix of a capable SUV and an everyday family car.

However, which one of these midsize SUVs is right for you? Butler County Ford put together this comparison of the 2018 Ford Escape vs. 2018 Honda CR-V to help you decide which one offers more of what you're looking for.

Ford Escape vs Honda CR-V: Performance

As midsize SUVs built for both families and the outdoors, the 2018 Ford Escape and 2018 Honda CR-V are available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The Ford Escape has more options for power. It offers three engines, starting with a 2.5L iVCT I-4 engine that generates 168 horsepower. The next step up from there is a 1.5L EcoBoost® I-4 that produces 176 horsepower. Its most powerful option is a 2.0L EcoBoost® I-4 engine that delivers 245 horsepower.

These engines all work with a 6-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission. The SelectShift® feature allows you the freedom to choose between fully automatic and shifting manually without a clutch.

The Honda CR-V has two engine options, but they don't reach the same level of power. It offers an in-line 4-cylinder engine that puts out 184 horsepower and an in-line 4-cylinder engine with a single-scroll turbocharger that generates 190 horsepower. Both engines work alongside a Continuously Variable Transmission, which offers smooth automatic shifting, but doesn't give you the same driving freedom as the SelectShift® transmission.

Space and Cargo

The 2018 Ford Escape and 2018 Honda CR-V are both designed to be comfortable family SUVs. They each seat five people and have a generous amount of space inside. The Ford Escape lets the driver and front passenger stretch out, with 39.9 inches of headroom and 43.1 inches of legroom. The CR-V has a slightly smaller cabin, with 38 inches of front headroom and 41.3 inches of front legroom.

There's plenty of space for cargo, too. If you need to carry even more cargo, like a trailer or a camper, the Ford Escape can help. Its able to tow up to 3,500 pounds and with Trailer Sway Control, you can rest easy knowing that your payload is safe and stable.

The Honda CR-V also has towing abilities, but it's only able to tow up to 1,500 pounds, which is 2,000 pounds less than the Escape.

Escape vs CR-V: Infotainment Features

When you're running errands or on a family road trip, you want to know your car is keeping you on the right path and keeping the family entertained during the drive. Luckily, both the 2018 Ford Escape and 2018 Honda CR-V are loaded with infotainment features.

The Escape ties all your features together with Ford SYNC® 3. This touchscreen console is voice-activated, offers navigation, works as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and can sync with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

To really utilize SYNC® 3, download the FordPass™ app. Not only does the app let you lock, unlock, and start your car from your phone, but it can also find, reserve, and pay for parking before you get to your destination. Also, if you need to fill up on the way, it can find and compare prices from nearby gas stations, too.

The CR-V also features a touchscreen that is equipped with navigation, Apple CarPlay™, and Android Auto™, but it doesn't offer the same level of interactive help that SNYC® 3 and FordPass™ do.
