Ford is Making a Buzz About Bees

Butler County is serious farm country, and every farmer knows that you can't grow vegetables without bees.

Well, that may not be entirely true. Many "staple" crops are self-pollinating, like corn, wheat, and soy. However, some of Pennsylvania's big cash-crops -- potato, tomato, beans, and cabbage -- are pollinated by bees.

In the midst of a 30-year decline in bee population, Ford has decided to raise some of its own bees. The Ford Rouge Complex in Dearborn has two hives with 40,000 bees in each, cared for by product engineer, Mary Mason. These bees help pollinate the facility's…
